The Vikings are back!!

Starting February 1st, Chief Viking Nathan Midgley, will be spending 28 nights sleeping on the streets of Llandudno. With no tent and nothing but his trusty bivvy bag and a bit of cardboard, Nathan will brave whatever weather is thrown his way. Throughout the challenge he will be joined by various members of the Llandudno Vikings, local business owners, and anyone else mad enough to get involved.

This challenge is to help raise money, support, and awareness for the increasingly tragic issues of mental health and homelessness. Namely the charities Conwy Mind & Hope Restored- Registered Charity who do fantastic work in our local community and deserve all the help and support they can get.

Tourism Levy Consultation Template for submitting your repsonse.

Dear Member,

Firstly, apologies for the lack of regular Newsletters of late which is wholly due to the volume of meetings, lobbying and consultations taking place around Tourism levy and Business rates that will affect our Industry and your Business that I have been involved in alongside running my own Business.

The challenge is and has been immense this year with Homeless people and now Migrants being placed in Holiday Accommodation being an area that has demanded considerable attention and discussions between myself and Councillors, Sennedd members and our MP over the summer months.
This has been alongside the challenges of repetitive consultations with Welsh Government to try to gain a complete understanding as to why they are introducing a Tourism Levy that will affect your Business here in Wales alongside revised Business rates that have been increased from April 2023 for the vast majority of you.

As a member of UKH Cymru Board I have been able to lobby for our members to be included in the circulation of the UKH Cymru formal response to the Tourism Levy Consultation and to be able to now forward you the Final version of the agreed Template for businesses to respond to this consultation with.

Attached is a copy of the template for you to use before Tuesday 13th December when the consultation closes.
The first step that you need to do is to click at the start of the text in the next box and drag the cursor all the way to the end of the document and when highlighted, copy it to your clipboard, open your 'Word' or other word processing software and then paste it in to there. We hope to have a useable version on our website by Saturday evening for you to use ( password is ;LLandudno) but if this proves impossible please use the template below.

Please read the first section of this template prior to you editing it and submitting the details of your own business as well as detailing, where the text is in Red, specific details of your Business and how your business will be affected by this Levy/Tax. You must delete the words <insert your business name> as well as deleting the crosses in the details about your business ( what it is called, what it does, how long it has existed, how many people depend upon it, how many employees, what you spent in the local community on trades etc etc, all of which is useful to paint the picture of the value to the Nation of your business).

The you need to delete the Red text in italics and change the font to Automatic as well as deleting the italics before then entering the details about what impact this tax will have on your business.
You then need to enter your business name at the start of the paragraph <insert company name>. and delete that text from your response.

Then save the document to your PC with a name and then compose an email from your bsuiness to VisitorLevyConsultation@gov.wales and make sure that you attach the file before sending it.

It cannot be stressed enough how important this is to your business future that you complete this consultation response as we have got to demonstrate to Welsh Government that they have got this absolutely wrong and that it will not affect the day visitor numbers through doing this, but will rather encourage more people from our catchment area to make the drive home every evening after visiting the town and not to stay and support your business. This will impact Restaurants, cafes, Bars and Tourism Attractions as well as Hotels, Guest Houses and self catering, so act now .

I am also delighted to inform members that the AGM will take place on 23rd January 2023 and has been delayed due to the pressures of this consultation as well as the availability of key Directors for the meeting before then.
More details will follow in a later email.
